Overview
The Try It - Select a Portal UI Action for Service Portal Pages in ServiceNow allows users to preview a Service Portal page in a specific portal of their choice. Available as both a form button on catalog item forms and a list context menu action on record producer or page lists, this tool opens the page in a new tab or window within the selected portal. It saves the last selected portal as a user preference, displaying it at the top of the list for future use, and provides a better visual experience compared to the out-of-the-box "Try It" UI Action.
Steps to Use
1. Access the Service Portal Page or Catalog Item
Log in to your ServiceNow instance.
Navigate to a Service Portal page form (e.g., under Service Portal > Pages), a catalog item form (e.g., under Service Catalog > Catalog Items), or a list of record producers (e.g., under Service Catalog > Record Producers).
2. Locate the UI Action
On a Form: At the top of the form page, find the Try It - Select a Portal (ASI) button .

On a List (e.g., Record Producers or Pages): Right-click on a record in the list view (e.g., a record producer or page list) to open the context menu, then locate Try It - Select a Portal (ASI).

3. Select a Portal
Click Try It - Select a Portal (ASI) (either from the form button or context menu).
A pop-up window titled "Select a Service Portal" will appear, listing available portals such as:
Service Portal - sp
Employee Center - esc
Knowledge Portal - kb
(and others like benchmarks, cab, content_delivery_demo, mesp, swp, etc.)
The last portal you used will be displayed at the top under "Last Portal Used."
Click on the desired portal’s link.

4. Preview the Service Portal Page or Catalog Item
The Service Portal page or catalog item will open in a new tab or window, rendered in the selected portal.
The portal you selected will be saved as a user preference, and it will appear at the top of the list the next time you use this tool.

Notes
This UI Action is designed for both Service Portal pages and catalog items, offering a consistent preview experience across different contexts.
The list of available portals depends on your ServiceNow instance’s configuration.
The user preference for the last selected portal ensures quick access to your preferred portal in future tests.
The tool does not modify the Service Portal page or catalog item; it only renders it for preview in the chosen portal.
