USER GUIDE

Overview

The Add Multiple Question Choices Tool simplifies adding multiple choices to a Select Box variable in ServiceNow. Using a UI Action and UI Page, you can bulk-upload choices, customize their order, and fine-tune settings for a polished result.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Access the Tool

  • Navigate to the Variable form in ServiceNow.

  • Ensure the "Type" field is set to "Select Box."

  • Under "Related Links," click Add Multiple Question Choices.

ree

2. Configure the UI Page

A popup will appear with the following options:

  • How is the data separated?

    • Select "Comma-separated string" if your data is in a single line, separated by commas (e.g., President,CEO,Manager).

    • Select "One entry per line" if each choice is on a new line.

  • Start Order at: Enter the starting number for the "Order" field (e.g., 100).

  • Increment by: Set the increment for each choice’s "Order" (e.g., 0 for alphabetical sorting within the same order).

  • Include NULL option? Check this box to add a NULL choice, overriding the default "-- None --".

  • NULL selection text: Enter the display text for the NULL option (Appears if Include NULL option is selected)

  • Use the same string for the 'Value' field: Check this to use the same string for both "Text" and "Value" fields. If unchecked, the "Value" field will be a lowercase version of the "Text" with non-alphanumeric characters replaced by underscores (e.g., "Vice President" becomes vice_president).

  • Add 'NULL / Yes / No' Choices button: Click this to auto-configure settings for a NULL/Yes/No setup.

ree

3. Add Your Choices

  • In the "Data" text box, paste your choices based on the separation method selected (e.g., one per line or comma-separated).

4. Save and Apply

  • Click OK to add the choices to your Select Box variable.

  • The choices will appear in the "Question Choices" related list, sorted by "Order" and then alphabetically within the same order.

5. Verify in the Catalog

  • Open the Catalog Item in the ServiceNow catalog.

  • Confirm the Select Box variable displays your choices as expected (e.g., "Please select..." at the top, followed by your choices in order).

Tips

  • Use a starting "Order" of 0 for default options like "Please select..." to ensure they appear first.

  • If "Increment by" is set to 0, choices with the same "Order" will sort alphabetically.

  • Always import the Access Role before the Access Control to avoid role assignment issues.

Troubleshooting

  • Choices not appearing? Ensure the Variable "Type" is set to "Select Box" and you have admin access.

  • Order not sorting correctly? Double-check the "Start Order at" and "Increment by" values.

  • Access issues? Verify the Access Role and Access Control records are correctly imported.

Here’s why you’ll love it:

  • Lightning-Fast Bulk Uploads: With our intuitive UI Action, accessible via a "Related Link" on the Variable form (when the "Type" is set to "Select Box"), you can paste multiple choices at once. No more repetitive clicking—just pure efficiency.

  • Customizable to Your Needs: The sleek UI Page popup gives you total control. Choose how your data is separated (comma-separated or one entry per line), set the starting "Order" number, decide the increment (or leave it at 0 for alphabetical sorting), and even add a NULL option to override the default "-- None --". You can also sync the "Text" and "Value" fields or let the tool auto-format values for consistency.

  • Effortless NULL/Yes/No Options: Need a quick NULL/Yes/No setup? Hit the "Add 'NULL / Yes / No' Choices" button, and the tool pre-configures everything for you. It’s like having a productivity genie at your fingertips!

  • Smart Sorting for a Polished Look: Once added, your choices are intelligently sorted—first by "Order," then alphabetically within the same order. Your Select Box will look clean and professional, with options like "Please select..." neatly at the top, followed by your choices in perfect order.

The result? A beautifully organized Select Box variable in your catalog, ready to impress users with its seamless functionality. Whether you’re managing roles like "President," "CEO," or "Manager," the Add Multiple Question Choices Tool ensures your choices are added quickly and displayed perfectly.
